To Be the Best We Can Be
We are a small, village school at the heart of our local community in Great Yeldham. Our aspiration is for all pupils to be the best that they can be.
‘Pupils flourish in this friendly and welcoming village school because of its high expectations. Pupils enjoy coming to school. They attend well. The school’s Christian values and its motto ‘ To be the best you can be ’ underpin all aspects of school life.
Pupils behave well. They treat each other and adults with kindness and respect. Bullying incidents are rare. When pupils have any worries or concerns, staff deal with these promptly and effectively. Pupils say they feel safe in school.’
Ofsted 2023
Our last Ofsted inspection highlighted strengths in all areas of the inspection strands with Early Years receiving Outstanding. Our Early Years class is led by experienced and talented staff who ensure that every child has a rich and varied education as the foundation for future learning throughout the school.

‘The teaching of reading is given high priority. Children in Reception are extremely well supported to learn and recall new sounds quickly. As a result, children in Reception and pupils in key stage 1 learn to read well. The school provides pupils with books to read that match the sounds they know. Staff support weaker readers to catch up quickly. Pupils love learning to read and visiting the school library. They enjoy listening to their teachers reading stories to them. Older pupils are confident readers. They passionately discuss books they have enjoyed.
Children in Reception are excited by their learning.’
Ofsted 2023
The school is underpinned by a strong Christian ethos, which in turn is guided by our core values of hope, respect, determination and kindness. We have strong links with St Andrew’s Church and offer a daily act of Collective Worship.
‘Collective worship is inspirational and inclusive, impacting positively on individual and school life.’
Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS), 2018
We offer teaching of a high quality that ensures all pupils make progress. ‘The school has created an ambitious curriculum which ensures that pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), learn well’ (Ofsted 2023). Teachers offer imaginative lessons and maintain high expectations. We work carefully to ensure we balance ambitious academic expectations with the development of well-rounded children with clear values. We are very proud of the pupils’ positive attitudes to learning and high standards of behaviour.
We welcome visits to the school and hope that this website allows you a snapshot of life at St Andrew’s C of E Primary School.
