Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

‘To Be The Best You Can Be’

MFL at St Andrew’s

Learning a foreign language is a necessary part of being a member of a multi-cultural society and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality languages education should foster children’s curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Language teaching should provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping children to study and work in other countries.

How we learn

Children have weekly lessons in French throughout KS1 and KS2, using resources and units of work from Language Angels. In KS1, children acquire basic skills and understanding of French and will be further developed and embedded as they move throughout KS2. It is intended that when the children leave St Andrew’s school, they will have developed a natural confidence and curiosity to explore, other countries, languages and cultures.
