School Meals Questionnaire

In October 2010, Stuart Hornsby, Chair of the Finance Committee, circulated a questionnaire regarding school meals. We had 25 replies from 80 families, which equates to a 30% response – thank you to all those who replied. After analysis the following conclusions were reached:

72% wanted the meal service to continue.
12% felt the service should be discontinued.
16% offered no opinion or comments.

Governors therefore agreed that the school meal service should continue, with subsidy at the current level. The Finance Committee will continue to monitor the meals budget and may consult parents again in the future. From the replies it was clear there was confusion around school kitchens and meal provision – historically Essex County Council used to fund school kitchens and meals, this funding ceased a number of years ago. St Andrew’s converted the kitchen to a servery but we have to fund meals between the school budget and parents.
