History of St Andrew’s

The Church founded St Andrew’s CE School in 1876 to provide education according to the principles and practices of the Church of England.  The School, which is legally owned by the Trustees, is a church foundation and is controlled by the Local Authority.  The Governing Body, constituted in accordance with its Instrument of Government, is represented by member from the Church, the Local Authority, community, parents and teaching staff.  Strong links are fostered between the School, the Church and the Local Authority.

The School, situated on the A1017, comprises of the original Victorian building linked to a fairly modern wing by a library and foyer area built in 1995.  The Victorian building houses one classroom, toilets, staffroom, office and head teacher’s office.  The modern wing consists of the hall, four classrooms, multi purpose room, toilets, and the servery.  A demountable classroom is close to the main building and is occupied by Acorns Pre-School.  At the back of the school are two playgrounds and the school’s swimming pool, surrounded by grass areas.  An Asia Garden, adjacent to the swimming pool, was established in 2009 whilst working with the Royal Opera House Creative Partnerships.  The playground is zoned into the 5 continents of Asia, Australasia, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
