De Vere and Butler Class make a visit to Gearies Infants School, Redbridge

Butler & de Vere classes had a great day at Gearies Infants in Redbridge, on Tuesday 1st November.  We shared our Diwali learning in the afternoon and spent playtime discovering new friendships.  Gearies pupils and parents were impressed with our Diwali dance which we performed at the end of the day.  Some parents from Gearies Infant School joined us in the afternoon to answer some of the questions we had about Diwali e.g. how long does Diwali take?, what colours are used at Diwali?, what special foods do you make for Diwali?  Photographs are on the school website under our UK & Global links as well as the gallery.  Gearies Infants School made us very welcome!

Woodlands Junior School, Redbridge visited St Andrew’s

Woodlands School made a visit to St. Andrew’s on Tuesday, 28th June 2011.  In the morning we enjoyed a worship assembly together which was taken by Mrs. Joan Redmond on the theme of ‘Noah’s Ark’.  We then held a conference with Holst and Woodlands children discussing a range of topics e.g. religion, sports, hobbies and the history of Great Yeldham.  Pupils from Woodlands enjoyed a swim in the pool before making a visit to Spencers with our Year 4 and 5 children where we met with Caroline Spencer who shared the history of Spencers and allowed us to look around the lovely gardens.  Children received a Spencers notebook and refreshments before returning to school.

Holst Class made a visit to Newbury Park School in Ilford (Redbridge) on Wednesday, 15th June 2011.  Pupils and staff of Newbury Park warmly welcomed us in the morning.  The school, which is very large i.e. 900 pupils on role, offers a wide range of cultural diversity and religions.  A conference took place between the two schools in the morning where children debated issues of religion, race and what was great about being ‘British’.  Holst Class had the opportunity to meet with children over play and lunchtime breaks as well as work alongside Years 5 and 6 pupils in their classrooms.  The children learnt that the school celebrates a ‘language per month’ and that 46 different languages are spoken at Newbury Park.  We are planning to develop our links with a range of schools in Redbridge next year, which will give other classes an opportunity to make a visit to develop their learning on the wider cultural society of Britain.  Holst Class held their class assembly today and shared many of the highlights of the visit.

We are looking forward to welcoming pupils and staff from Woodlands School, Redbridge again on the 28th June.
