EdisonLearning – ‘Core Learning Skills’
What is Fish! Philosophy?
The FISH! Philosophy began in 1998 with a film about Seattle’s world-famous Pike Place Fish Market. It demonstrated that even in a workplace where fishmongers spend smelly, gruelling, 12-hour shifts stocking, selling and packing fish, remarkable results can occur.
This happens when people follow four simple practices:
Be There
Play
Make Their Day
Choose Your Attitude.

St Andrew’s is using the Fish! culture with EdisonLearning to develop
‘Core Learning Skills’ for all pupils in our school.
The ‘Core Learning Skills’ are the skills we all need for living in the 21st Century.
The ‘Core Learning Skills’ encompasses a set of skills underpinned by social values that help learners learn more effectively and equip them for learning for life. These are the six ‘Core Learning Skills’ which we have followed throughout the year with a new unit each half-term.
• Learning With Others
• Understanding And Improving My Learning
• Developing Self-Worth And Respect For Others
• Building Independence And Responsibility
• Researching, Reasoning And Enquiry
• Creative Thinking And Problem Solving
We have displays in the hall and in each classroom to remind us of our focus for the half-term.
