The children across the school enjoyed story writing for the BBC Radio 4 competition, designing book marks, book swaps, writing blurbs and designing book covers for their favourite books and describing their favourite book characters.

WE WILL BE CELEBRATING WORLD BOOK DAY on Thursday 1^st March

World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.  Each Class will be celebrating reading and authors through a range of activities on the day.  Additionally, we thought it would be fun to have a ‘book swap’ in class, so if your child would like to bring in a book that they like but no longer need they can be swapped on the day.

Everyone will be receiving a WORLD BOOK DAY – Book Token

A member of the Lynx Theatre Company has been in school today working with Butler and De Vere Classes.  All the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and presented their ‘Play in a Day’ on the theme of ‘Space’ to the rest of the school this afternoon.

Daffodils in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Care ‘Great Daffodil Appeal’ are available from the school office.  It is hoped that a donation of at least £1 will be made for each daffodil.

There will be NO clubs on Tuesday, 28^th and Wednesday, 29^th February due to Parents Evenings, except for Anxiety Club (run by Mrs. McPartland and Mrs. Fenner) on Tuesday.  Clubs on other days will be operating as usual.

It was the turn of Holst class to be filmmakers for the day on Tuesday, taking part in a complete hands-on experience in television production organised by Tony Roberts (Director and Filmmaker).  Each child will be bringing home an edited version of their own news programme featuring reports which they wrote, directed, edited and appeared in, as well as co-ordinating light and sound.

A community café, jointly organised by the PTA and St. Andrew’s Church will be opening every Thursday between 1.00-3.00pm.  Please do ‘drop-in’ for refreshments and a chat.  Everyone is welcome!  There will be play equipment for the children!  Hot/cold drinks and delicious cakes will be available for purchase!

A big thank you to everyone for contributing toys for the Toy Sale on Tuesday.  A wonderful £182 was raised!  A big thank you also to pupils in De Vere Class for manning the stalls.

Constable Class enjoyed a very exciting day on Tuesday, taking part in a complete hands-on experience in television production organised by Toby Roberts (Director and Film maker).  Each child will be bringing home an edited version of their own news programme featuring reports which they wrote, directed, edited and appeared in as well as co-ordinating light and sound.  Photos of the day are in the gallery on the school website.  We were very impressed with how the day was organised and have arranged for Holst Class to have the same opportunity and experience on Tuesday, 7^th February.

Thank you for all the toys sent in for the P.T.A. Toy Sale to be held on Tuesday, 31^st January. On the day children will need a maximum of £5 to spend and, if possible, a bag or two to take home their purchases.

The Reverend Barbara will be running confirmation classes for children in Year 6 or older.  If anyone feels they would like to be confirmed this year and would like to join the classes, please let the school office know and we will pass the message on.

A presentation of jewellery and flowers was made at lunchtime to Mrs. Wendy Dixey, who left the staff of St. Andrew’s today.  Mrs. Dixey has been a member of the midday staff for many years and we all send her our best wishes for the future.
