Our Church

As a Church of England school, St Andrew’s School and St Andrew’s Church are closely connected. The school often come into the church for midweek services at occasions such as Harvest, Christmas and Easter. Members of the local churches also partner with the school through school assemblies and other in school activities, as well as an after-school club at the church for pupils.

St Andrew’s Church is part of a group of churches, overseen by Revd Liz Paxton, covering seven local villages. In addition to Great Yeldham, these include Castle Hedingham, Little Yeldham, Sible Hedingham, Stambourne, Tilby-juxta-Clare and Toppesfield. Together these make up the Hedinghams and Upper Colne Benefice (https://www.hedingham.info/) of the Chelmsford Diocese (https://www.chelmsford.anglican.org/) of the Church of England (https://www.churchofengland.org/).

The local vicar in Great Yeldham is Revd Justin Tomkins. He moved to the area with his family in autumn 2019 and is one of the School Governors. As well as his part-time work in the benefice, Justin draws upon his background in chemistry within his ongoing work involving science, faith and technology. Further details about St Andrew’s Church, Sunday services, and the local church team are available through the website of the Hedinghams and Upper Colne Benefice. (https://www.hedingham.info/)
