‘To Be The Best You Can Be’

Art & Design at St Andrew’s

At St. Andrew’s we believe that art is a vital part of children’s education. Our art and design curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge children. We aim to build on a child’s early creative experiences whilst enabling them to express themselves in a practical and inspiring way. We hope to develop the children’s passion and love of the subject through engaging, creative and innovative lessons.

How we learn

The skills and knowledge that children will develop throughout each art topic are mapped across each year group and are progressive throughout the school, each class will be studying the same technique once a half term but building on these skills each year. The impact of our art and design curriculum can be seen not only in our children’s sketch books but also through classroom displays and the school environment. The structure of the art curriculum ensures that children are able to develop their knowledge and understanding of the work of artists, craftspeople and designers from a range of times and cultures and apply this knowledge to their own work.
